The Zeek community is made up of security practitioners, researchers, and defenders who use Zeek in production, build on top of it, and help shape where it goes next. It’s an active, welcoming group that’s driven by volunteers. Whether you have a quick question, a hard problem, or something to contribute, there’s a place for you here.
If you haven’t already, take a moment to review our Code of Conduct to understand our community values and expectations.
Connect with our community
-
Slack
Connect directly with us for real-time discussion, announcements, and the occasional deep dive into conn.log. Review our Slack Guidelines before diving in.
-
Discourse
Our forum is the best place to get a thorough answer. Search years of questions or post your own and tap into community knowledge.
-
YouTube
Watch technical walkthroughs, conference talks, and community call recordings. Looking for structured training? Find Zeek Training resources on GitHub.
-
Events
We meet monthly on Zoom call to share project updates and announcements, host in-person workshops, and participate in conferences throughout the year.
Get Involved
Participation looks different for everyone. Some people drop into Slack when they hit a problem and stay for the conversation. Others contribute code, packages, or documentation when the opportunity lines up.
-
Code
Contribute to Zeek core or write a package that extends its functionality.
-
Content and Documentation
Write blog posts, improve documentation, or help others learn how to use Zeek.
-
Testing
Help stress-test new Zeek releases against real traffic before they go out to the community.
-
Other Ways to Contribute
If you’re not sure where to start, joining Slack and introducing yourself is the lowest-friction entry point. If you’re ready to contribute, our Contribution Guide lays out what’s available across every skill level and time commitment.
The community also organizes around focused subgroups — working groups such as the Training group that coordinate on a specific area. If one lines up with your interests, ask in Slack about getting involved.
